Exercise with markers, paint brush or pointer
For practice, you must be having a small brother, a sparring partner, or your kid whoever is weaker than you and provide them a marker/brush using the cap away. Take your shirt off and let them attempt to indicate you as you attempt to prevent them.
Count the mark lines in the end up even when you're experienced in self-indulgent, or perhaps MMA, or karate, you are likely to rapidly come up from a tough fact: it is fairly simple for somebody to acquire a blade for you in close quarters, along with a knife makes for a mortal attacker, even if you do not understand what you are doing.
]This really is a great method of practicing your knife fighting abilities in excellent safety. Never try to exercise knife. Use clinic knives or markers.
Judge your attacker
If you are likely to take a knife, then you need to be sure that you don't introduce it in the fight. Knives should be attracted as your competitor has drawn a knife, gun, or another weapon if you fear for the own life in a physical altercation.

If a person comes up for you in a threatening fashion, take a look at their palms and in their pockets. Draw your own knife if you find a weapon. Use your knife for a diversion.
Most attackers will not be interested in really attacking you personally, particularly if you just pulled a knife which you look just like you understand how to utilize.
No one wishes to get into a knife fight. You have pulled a knife return and if a person has pulled a knife, which should be its end.
Ideally, pulling on your knife and deflecting your competition should be the fight's conclusion. Each evening, it sharpens. Trust me, you do not wish to come.
Keith Richards a famed knife enthusiast, liked to say that the sole goal of pulling a knife was supposed to find someone to check out the knife for a diversion until you finished the fighting kicking them involving the legs. Perhaps not the worst thing.
Here’s the thing that most people tend to forget - you may have bought one of the best bushcraft knives out there in the market right now, but that alone does not guarantee the fact that it will be useful in the wild because the definition of best is subjective.
The bottom line is that you need to learn how to use it in a smart and efficient manner to ensure that when the time is right, you don’t shiver like a baby; rather fight like a man. That is the only way in which you can make sure that the knife is useful when it really counts, else it is just a useless piece of sharp metal.
Learning how to use a bushcraft knife effectively includes learning as well as practising some basic bushcraft knife skills. Contrary to popular belief, there is no need to go into a forest literally to improve your bushcraft knife skills. You can even practice with a bushcraft knife in your backward. Not only will the element of practice become fun to do after a while, but you will even become more and more proficient as time goes by because when you are an amateur, you get bored or disheartened easily, but when you are able to use it like a pro, the possibility of getting bored completely disappears. You can definitely be sure of this fact.
Hence, whenever you are in the wilderness or in any survival situation, you can be sure that your skills are efficient enough to fight it because you are prepared for anything that comes your way. On that note, let’s take a look at some of the essential bushcraft knife skills:-
Batoning: Now this process can mainly be done by splitting wood. To make sure that you get it right, select a bushcraft knife that happens to be a few inches longer than the wood you are attempting to split.Make sure that you keep batoning the knife till you split the wood. Then, you can focus on making deeper notches in the wood. It is a good exercise for your upper body; enhancing your strength significantly.
Carving: This is one of the main uses for your knife. Not only will this enable you to construct useful tools such as bowls and spoons, but the process itself is great fun, and will ensure that you maintain a better control over your knife. It also helps you to make use of whatever lies around in your surroundings, if you get stuck in the wild. You can also try your hand at some of the smaller tasks as well. In this regard, a thick, long blade is not the ideal option for carving in general. It basically makes you familiar with the length and width of the knife; allowing you to use it more effectively when the need arises.
Fire Starting: As far as general bushcraft and survival situations are concerned, knowing how to make a fire is absolutely essential in every sense of the word. In order to determine whether or not your knife can handle such a task, you can even practice at home in your own backyard. You never know when you might need such a skill, so if you are an adventure lover, then this is a must for you.Practicing with dry as well as wet materials is a must. Even the option of a ferro rod to start a fire is extremely efficient. It is also extremely cool to start a small fire with your knife; a skill which you can boast around among your family and friends.
Feather Sticks: This is an important bushcraft skill to learn. Using this skill, you will be able to start a fire even when it is damp and all other methods have failed. Practicing it with carving and fire starting skills would be the ideal way to go. It is not rocket science but is not easy as well, so don’t be disheartened if you are not able to even get sparks, let alone a small fire. Practice makes a man perfect! Period.
Chopping: Once again, this is a skill best honed at home itself. You will also need to make sure that you have a firm grip on the knife at all times as well as considering the use of an axe or saw, else your hand might get strained or someone else might get severely injured, if it slips from your hand. So to protect your loved ones and the expensive household items, grip stronger to last longer.
Finally, do make sure that you practice all of these skills at home itself. That way, you will truly find out what your bushcraft knife is capable of doing, as well as improve on your very own bushcraft skill set. Basically, it is much better for a mediocre bushcraft knife to be in the hands of an expert, as opposed to a great bushcraft knife in the hands of an unskilled person.
One of the essential concerns that you should take care of is the fact that handling a knife can be dangerous for yourself too. Practicing any of the above skills can be as lethal as using it against someone else. What you need to make sure is that you guard yourself with thick clothes or a light-weight armour, and the pointy-end should never face towards your body. Practice slowly if you are afraid of hurting yourself because it is better to be safe than sorry.
That is the main fact that you need to remember as well as the fact that once you acquire all of the necessary skills, you will be in a much calmer and less stressed-out state of mind when you find yourself in a survival situation.
If you own a small or medium-sized boat, you probably already have or are thinking about buying a boat trailer. Your trailer is an essential element if you plan on hauling your boat around, when the time to winterize your boat comes, or when you want to store it for whatever reason.
Whenever we think about taking our boat out, we want it to be as easy as hooking the trailer to the car and go. We all also want our boat trailer to be reliable and easy to use, and there are some accessories that help us accomplish just that. Some accessories can make your use of the trailer simpler; others can make it safer, while others, both.
Here are some of the best boat trailer parts and fishing boat accessories to make your life easier and taking your boat out and around safer.
1. A Trailer Jack
The trailer jack is an accessory that makes towing the boat safer and easier. The jack keeps the trailer leveled when it is not hooked to the car; it makes it steady, which is handy when you need to load or unload the boat and when it is parked. It also raises and lowers the trailer when you need to attach it or detach it from the ball. There are two main types of trailer jacks: fixed and swivel. Depending on your budget and the type of trailer you use, you can choose the one that best works for you.
Fixed jacks, such as the DL tongue jacks, are easy to install, you can mount them in several different ways and their Zinc plating makes them very durable.
Swivel jacks, such as the Fulton trailer Jack F2 TWIN TR, have the advantage of reducing the effort you need to use when moving the loaded trailer. This particular swivel jack is virtually maintenance free.It was designed so that it does not need lubrication and it’s corrosion-resistant.
2. Wheel Chocks
Your trailer wheels should be secured whenever your trailer is parked. This is a safety measure that prevents the trailer from accidentally rolling away. Additionally, using wheel chocks when your trailer is winterized or if you will not be using it for a while will increase the lifespan of your trailer’s tires by distributing the weight’s pressure between the tires and the chocks. There are many brands for you to choose from such as theFloTool Wheel Chocks, these wheel chocks are lightweight, made of polypropylene -a strong and long-lasting material that is rust- and corrosion-resistant. They have a treaded surface which grips the tires and serrated teeth on the bottom so it properly grips on the ground, guaranteeing the stability of the trailer.
You can always opt to take on a DIY project and make them yourself using wood blocks and rope.
3. An Adjustable Wrench
This is an extremely versatile tool –even if you don’t own a trailer or a boat. An adjustable wrench is useful when you need to adjust the trailer’s bolts. It is advisable to check them all once or twice a year if it is frequently used, or if it has been stored for a while. An adjustable wrench will let you do this quickly.
However, don’t just go buying the first one you come across at Walmart or BestBuy. Since you will be using this tool near the water, you should buy a durable, well-known brand, made with top quality materials and a fitting design, such as this Campbell adjustable wrench. This beauty is chrome-plated, which makes it corrosion- and rust-resistant and has a non-slip grip.
4. A Wheel Dock
A wheel dock is essential for stabilizing the trailer’s tongue wheel. The wheel dock prevents that the tongue wheel sinks when you are parking your trailer on soft ground. The Camco Wheel Dock, for example, is a heavy duty, easy to handle Wheel dock that comes in bright yellow, so you won’t stop your foot while walking around the trailer. It is also easy to store and transport.
5. A Coupler Lock
This is what secures your trailer to prevent thievery. When the lock is in its place and secured, no one can lift the receiver or unhitch the trailer.
This is particularly useful if you travel a lot and/or if you travel long distances with your boat. You will not have to worry about anyone stealing it when you need to do stopovers.
One of the most popular coupler locks within trailer users is the REESE Towpower Universal Coupler Lock. This lock is made of aluminum and heavy-duty steel. It fits most trailers and it is bright yellow to discourage thieves.
Another favorite is the Gorilla Guard, manufactured by Cequent. This lock offers excellent protection for unattended trailers. It is designed to shield the lock from tampering devices and has a push button lock. This one also fits most couplers.
6. Safety chains
When taking your boat on long-distance trips, you should attach the ball to the hitch using safety chains. This provides and extra protection against the trailer detaching from the vehicle. In some states, it is mandatory for safety chains to always be in place while traveling. These six items will make your life easier while helping you use your boat and trailer safely. Remember it is always important to use high-quality trailer accessories and boat motor parts when improving and fixing your boat’s trailer. This will guarantee that your trailer will always be in the best condition and maximize its lifespan.

Spin fishing lures are by far the most common choice for anglers when targeting trout species. All types of trout will accept spin fishing lures including spinner-baits, and these are often the preferred artificial bait compared to hard body lures and soft plastics.
In this article we will focus on the in-line spin fishing lures, rather than spinner-baits. In line spin fishing lures are a single metal shaft, up the top is a metal deflector to push water over the next attachment, a spoon.
The inline spin fishing lure's spoon is a metal disc that rotates extremely fast when retrieved at a certain speed, different spin fishing lures require a different speed to begin rotating.Spin lures were actually designed specifically for use on trout and salmon originally, so are the first and still by far the most successful lures for these fish. The main thing when using spin lures for trout is to have the correct fishing rod, the correct weight lure, and a bit of casting practice. As these lures are by far the easiest to use out of them all, it won't take long
Further down the hook is the body deflector, this creates a pressure system underneath the spoon for faster rotations. Then finally on the inline spin lure is the treble hook.
When fishing for trout using an inline spin lure, you need to ensure you are retrieving the lure at the correct speed for the highest spin effect, trout will not bother with your lure unless it is spinning extremely fast, hence some practice in shallower waters is needed beforehand to determine the rate at which you should retrieve.
Once one is experienced with spin fishing lures, they will be able to determine whether the lure is spinning or not just from the feel and vibrations coming down the fishing line and into the rod.
Spin lures come in a range of different weights and sizes, while many new anglers will use higher weights to achieve a further casting distance, this is actually counter productive, larger weight heavy lures are normally only for marine use or extremely deep waters where a extremely fast sink rate is needed, along with a much larger looking bait.
Instead of opting for a higher weight to cast further, you should instead invest in a ultra light weight fishing rod designed for trout fishing. These will cater for lures between 1g and 4 grams ideally, with a maximum lure weight of 10 grams.
Ensure you invest in one that can handle 1 gram at minimum, as buying spin fishing lures from a fishing online store at these weights can often save a lot of money. With the correct rod, provided it can handle a 1 gram lure, there is no reason a 1 gram lure's cast distance will not reach just as far as a regular fishing rod with a 10 gram lure instead.
Trout fishing rods or ultra-light rods are by far the best choice, as is using lighter weight lures and casting these further. Using smaller and lower weight lures, ideally between 1.5 and 4.5 grams, will allow you to attract all the trout in the water, when fishing in a stream, a 1.5 gram lure is often enough to catch smaller trout hiding away.
Where as in a large lake, you would preferably opt for a 4.5 gram lure which is larger and will be easier for fish further away to spot, without being too large as to deter them to strike.
The most common range of inline spin lures are called by names such as the Blue Fox Super Vibrax and Mepps style lures, however all spin lures operate the same way, they are designed as a cast and retrieve lure, with speed dictating the spinning of the lure's spoon.
Some fish will attack a lure which spins and is on full retrieve the entire time, other times however fish may prefer a short spin for around 1 second, then a pause, then a fast spin again, this fast retrieve then a pause allows the lure to sink in the water column, then retrieve brings it back towards the surface, hence creating a zig-zag motion in the water.
Fish are almost blind to the lure when it isn't spinning, so the sudden start and stop of the spin lure can provoke a hunting response in the fish, where it feels the baitfish is trying to get away.
So sometimes it can be best to do short spin motions, pause, spin then pause again, followed by a run for about 5 seconds a little slower, and repeat this process, this will draw attention of nearby fish, and the final run will provoke the predatory fish into a sense of being able to catch the fish, hence it will hunt down the lure and usually strike.
When fishing for salmon however, in salt water, the same tactics can be applied, however you will need a much larger lure, something like a 8 gram minimum to a 20 gram maximum, and your light weight trout rod also won't be capable of bringing in a sea trout / salmon, so a regular fishing rod is best for this.
Fishing for salmon is great fun if they are available in your region, and often provide an experience much like trout fishing, with a lot more impact and fight to them.
The larger and heavier weight of these lures also help to cast further from the boat and also lets the lure sink deep a lot faster, getting a lure right to the bottom of the water column, you can retrieve on what would be about a 90 to 150 degree angle, hence when you pause, the lure will begin to sink almost straight down, you can allow the lure to stay under the water much longer this way, and rise and fall off the bottom of the water column until you find yourself a salmon.
Fishing for eel can be exciting and at the same time frustrating depending on various factors. Given that eels are mostly found in different water bodies that have muddy bottom surfaces, you have to be skillful to get the ideal catch.
Interestingly, many anglers tend to pursue other types of fishes as critical targets and in some instances end up with a few or more eels. This breed is not glamorous, and many fishermen often classify it as among the undesirable type of fish around. In fact, some people use it as baits. How to catch eels is thus essential to the anglers that need this fish as main target any moment they are out fishing.
Before we even get to know best ways of catching eels, it is imperative to understand some of the necessary information regarding eels. This is a type of fish that resembles a snake, which is elongated and tapers to a point at the tail.
It is relatively slim and appears scale-free, but in a real sense, the scales are deeply embedded in particular sections of the skin. In most cases, they like breeding in freshwater bodies and vary in color from dark brown to olive green.
It is often rare to find male eels that are longer than 0.5 meters. However, female eels are ordinarily common especially those that are one meter long, and some go even to about 1.5 meters. The weight varies depending on the length where some would weigh up to four kilograms, with a few exceptions that can grow to a weight of eight kilograms.
Several ways can be used to capture eels. The major problem that you might encounter is that eels are often slippery, swift and difficult to hold even after catching. The best time to find them is at night.
However, you may also choose to pursue them during the day since some of them also feed during such times. You’ll need to get too muddy bottom places; fresh water empties into salty water and brackist water areas.
One way is that you may choose to use worms, minnows and loach gudgeon among others to catch them. This method is somewhat tedious and unpredictable especially in areas where there are several types of fishes. You can never be sure of whether it is the eel that will be caught on the bait or any other type of fish.
It happens that an angler baits a small hook and using a worm or minnow or any other preferred one and presenting it at the end of the entrance of the hole.
The eel then takes the bait while the angler is still holding the line taut until when the prey is finally caught. With time, you will feel that the eel is biting and it is when you are supposed to react gently but quickly by lifting it from the water to the ground or into a basket.
A compelling aspect to take note of is when you realize that the fails to bite the bait for around two minutes or so then choose to reel the line in and cast it out once more.
It is a somewhat traditional method that may end up consuming much of your time, but if you are doing for fun, then it becomes a more interesting approach to take.
The other way is using night lines. Such night lines have several many hooks attached to them and are pushed to the water using a relatively heavy brick or stone or any other substance that has appropriate weight on one side.
The other side of the nightline is tied on the branch of a tree or fastened into the river bank or better still, tied on a bunch of weeds that are on the water side. This method is somewhat easy and relatively better than using bait since you’re confident of catching most if not all eels by the end of the exercise.
In most cases, eels are caught in rivers. Nonetheless, the ideal time for finding them is when they are moving towards the sea. It is also a sign that they have indeed attained the right size for the catch, ideal fat content as well as best possible condition.
Still, you can capture eels that move upstream primarily for purposes of direct food or better yet for transferring them to other waters. In this case, you need to ensure that you use the safest means possible to prevent injuring some of the tissues of these fishes.
What you have to know is that there are specific tools that you need when fishing for eels. It does not, therefore, imply that the gears are expensive or relatively complicated. No! For instance, when you’re pursuing silver eels that migrate you need to have reasonably large and robust pieces of equipment.
Yellow eels, on the other hand, can be captured using baited traps, eel spears, long lines, shore seines and fyke nets for eels among others. However, the most efficient of all of these depends on what is stipulated in the regulations that govern the fishing in that particular locality.
Overall, some of the preferred equipment are those that do not cause harm to or interfere with the other untargeted species. It is thus proper to ensure that you become conscious of the fact that the conservation of other types of fishes that you do not necessarily need is an important aspect when dealing with particular tools for capturing eels.
From the pots, it seems apparent that catching eel can be easy and also difficult depending on your approach and the types of tools that you use.
The most important thing, however, is to make sure that you understand how and when to catch this kind of fish. You also need to be patient because they are unpredictable and tend to mingle easily with other types of fish hence making it rather tricky to define their dominant base entirely.
Because camping, trekking or hiking with no stoves, pots, pans, and other cooking utensils is so much easier, no cook backpacking meals have now become very popular. Not only does this save you from carrying several extra pounds but it also gives you more time to enjoy nature without having to worry about cleaning up or preparing your meals.
Of course, backpacking meals should be packed with nutrients and calories to provide you strength and energy. They also don’t have to be unhealthy or expensive. In fact, you might be surprised at the number of choices and ways you can prepare them. For easy, tasty recipes and ideas on what you can eat without cooking or heating, check out this list!
The trail is not the best environment for keeping meat fresh. Thankfully, there are cured and preserved meats that do not need refrigeration. These are ideal additions to your meals or a good snack by themselves. These include:
Cheese is a great source of protein, healthy fats, and minerals like calcium, iron, magnesium, zinc, phosphorus, and vitamins A and B12. You can eat it on its own or with bread, meat, crackers, or in wraps. The following aged hard cheeses will stay good outside the fridge longer:
Dried fruits give you a sugar boost but are healthier than candy. Nuts and seeds, if roasted, provide healthy fats and oils and proteins. Cereals provide energy-giving sugars and fiber. Trail mix is a light, nutritious, and handy treat on the trail. Fiber bars and granola bars are just basically another form of what’s in a trail mix. Here’s what you can add to your mix:
○ Marsh berry
○ Cashew nuts
○ Pumpkin Seeds
○ Sunflower seeds
○ Flax seeds
○ Chia seeds
Bagels are great for breakfast sandwiches since they are less delicate but more moist and fluffy than other carbohydrate choices for trails. You can eat them with any or a combination of the following:
Crackers are also a great, filling food rich in sodium and carbohydrates. Prevent them from breaking and getting crushed by hanging them outside you backpack in a bag or bandana. You can also eat them with cheese and meat for a complete, satisfying meal.
Oatmeal is another unbeatable instant breakfast food. For a nutritious and easy meal, combine oatmeal with hot or cold water, whichever is available, and top with dried fruits, some nuts, and a little honey. You can also add some powdered milk or get the instant oatmeal packets than only need hot water.
Quaker Instant Oatmeal Variety Pack of 48 packets is a cheap option. It only costs less than $20 and contains single-serving packets that only take 90 seconds to prepare. Simply add water and stir.
Wraps are the first things that come to mind when I think of a quick, easy, and complete meals with all the things you need like proteins, veggies, fats, and carbs. Pita is also a durable type of bread that can survive being unrefrigerated and packed. There are also hundreds of fillings that you can roll inside a pita wrap for a meal or a heavy snack. Here are some ideas:
Fresh vegetables such as peppers, green beans, broccoli, and carrots paired with a little savory hummus are enough to keep you satisfied and fueled.
Pizza, in my opinion, is always good whether cold or warm. Pizza wraps require very simple ingredients and even less preparation than oven-baked pizza. Just pack some tomato powder and dried herbs that you can mix with some salt, pepper, and water for a nice sauce base. Add some cured meats and hard aged cheeses. Layer everything together and add a little barbecue or hot sauce for an extra kick.
For dinner, whip up a burrito by wrapping some beans and rice with some veggies, cheese, and meat.
If you’re tired of meat, tuna is another affordable and convenient protein. You can bring the kind that comes in easy-open cans or packets. Add some hard cheese and sliced vegetables, and you’ve got yourself a good and energy-packed meal.
For snacks, ideal pita fillings include peanut butter and jelly or bananas, mayonnaise, cream cheese and smoked salmon, canned pineapples with chicken, pesto chicken, and the like.
No cook backpacking meals tend to be boring and monotonous especially during long trips. Fortunately, there are tons of meal ideas and ingredients that you can mix and match for some variety, like those mentioned here. Whether you prefer to bring a stove or not, these meals are definitely a must-try!
Shooting is a pastime that is enjoyed by many people, and one that can provide a great deal of satisfaction. Whether you enjoy target or game shooting, or keep a gun for security and peace of mind. there are certain legal requirements that go with gun ownership, and a great deal of inherent responsibility that also comes with the sport.
Make no mistake, guns are dangerous, and especially so if in the wrong hands. An experienced handler will know what to do to make sure that the guns they own never get into the hands of others, and one of the legal requirements is a gun safe.
Any holder of a firearms licence is expected to adhere to the laws and regulations that go with owning guns. This includes having a secure place where your guns are at the least risk of getting into the wrong hands. Bear in mind that such laws can vary from state to state. Let’s talk about the essentials of where to keep your gun safe.
First, it’s important to be aware that the regulations pertaining to guns also apply to ammunition and accessories. The first requirement for any gun owner is to have a safe, secure and top-quality gun cabinet or safe installed; the trick is in knowing where to put it.
You can buy safes for guns readily, and there are some very good ones on the market that make a lot of sense at sensible prices. Still, you need to take all the advice you can on where best to put your safe, and the primary consideration is finding the place that offers the lowest chance of theft or accidental discovery.
To this end, it’s perhaps wise to check out the places where you really should NOT put your gun safe, so here’s a few ideas:
The garage – a no-no in every way; it’s the easiest place to get into, the first place anyone will look, and a likely access point for anyone breaking and entering. It’s also most at risk from fire, flood and potentially damaging humidity – remember, the care of your gun is also part and parcel of having a safe.
Bedroom – it’s a cliché, so don’t hide your gun safe behind a picture, say, in your bedroom, or put it in your closet. Thieves will undoubtedly check this area first once they are in.
Hallway – this is the first entry point of anyone coming into your house – wanted or otherwise – and remember, where your guns and valuables are concerned, never trust anyone!
Statistically, the following are the safest places – in terms of chance of theft – for your gun safe: the basement, where there are plenty of potential hiding places, and which can be kept locked at all times, and the bathroom, where nobody will likely think to look. This is not to say these are failsafe places, but they are not the ones that spring to mind for thieves.
Now you have an idea of where to, and not to, put your gun safe, what else do you need to know? It should be constructed to a high standard and have a security rating that makes it very difficult to get into. Check out the many available and talk to experts in gun safes who will be able to help you with the details.
Once you have a safe in mind, and a place where it is going to go, you need to think about how you are to secure it. A free-standing case or cabinet is not a great idea for guns, so you need to look at securing it to the fabric of the house. This is another reason why basements are a great place for gun safes, as they can be secured to very strong beams or struts, with bolts that are very difficult to cut.
Also, think about siting your gun safe in a corner position, from which you can have it secured on more than one side; this gives you added protection if anyone wants to try and prise it away, and will delay them significantly.
It is also wise to make sure your gun safe isn’t too obvious, so try not to have it on full view. Hide it behind mock vents – or even a false wall – for example, and make it as hard to find as can possibly be.

Fishing is one of the best hobby a person can have. It is relaxing and relieves stress as well. In my younger years, I’ve experienced fishing together with my older brother in a small river near our place.
I’ve seen him catches different kinds of fishes, though almost were tiny maybe because there wasn’t a perfect fishing tool he could use. But whether big or small, the most important thing is we enjoyed a lot.
Today, I still go fishing and use my fishing line oftentimes, it is simple to realize that it is necessary to replace it much frequently than if you only fish for many times a year.
Every time I go fishing, my fishing line is unprotected to many harsh stuffs, heat, and water. The more time it undergoes exposure, the sooner it dilapidated.
Overnight fishing trips are such a thrilling experience, wouldn’t you agree? They are more challenging than the day fishing adventures and more fun, in my opinion. The only thing that may scare some of you away is the fact that you have to stay awake all night long.
No worries, there are plenty of things you can do to avoid falling asleep when going fishing overnight. I'm a big fan of night fishing, and I used several of these tricks to stay alert. Try at least some of them the next time you plan an overnight fishing escapade.
Get a good long rest the night before going fishing. Go to bed later than usual and make everything possible for a truly relaxing sleep. These actions will help your body run through a sleepless night.
Respect the rule of having three healthy and balanced meals during the day that precedes the sleepless night. If you skip eating, your body will feel undernourished; if you overeat, it'll be too tired trying to digest.
I suggest you have a big breakfast, with healthy carbs and proteins, plus fruits and veggies. Lunch should be generous, but not too fat, and dinner should be light – no greasy, fatty foods, no heavily caffeinated or sugary stuff.
Staying up all night will make you hungry, at some point, so it’s best to have a stock of healthy foods prepared. Carrot sticks, fruits (like apples or bananas), nuts, almonds or cashews are all great options.
Also, they don’t weigh much in your backpack. During the night, you could chew gum or a mint. I usually go for the nuts, but mints are also a good choice.
A few hours before you start your sleepless night, take a 30 minutes short nap. It will give you an extra boost of rest and energy. But don’t overdo it, because a longer nap will make you feel tired and the plan will be ruined.
Cold weather will make your body temperature drop, and you will feel tired; you'll slowly nod off to sleep, and the fish will get away. The best solution is to have thermal clothing to keep your body temperature up so you won’t fall asleep.
Comfy bedding is essential for pulling an all-nighter. If it's freezing outside, a thermal sleeping bag is a solution; if it's warm, then a foam mat or an inflatable sleeping pad is the best choice.
Check a try mattress site to find the right product for you – they are light, waterproof and extremely efficient on an overnight fishing trip. Some guys like also having a bed-chair to sit back and chill, but I don’t particularly feel the need to carry it with me.
Keep parts of your body active, and you'll be less likely to fall asleep. Try some of these tricks: stretching, rolling your shoulders, circling your head or even give yourself a hand massage.
Get up and move around, to improve your blood flow. Jumping jacks will work, too. Relax your eyes every hour by closing and opening them several times. If you still feel like falling asleep, pinch yourself or bite your tongue!
Proper hydration will help you stay awake. Just make sure you drink cold water, not alcohol or coffee. A glass of ice water is enough to induce a small shock to your body; drinking at least one from time to time will continue to refresh the body.
If music doesn’t put you to sleep, you may consider listening to it while fishing, with the help of earbuds or headphones. Dynamic songs playing softly in your ear will stimulate you to pay attention to your surroundings and thus stay awake.
Stimulating your mind is just as important as encouraging your body when you want to pull an all-nighter. Play a game in your head or concentrate on learning the lyrics of the songs you’re listening. And keep your spine straight, it will help the mind stay alert.
